We often relate "classic" to "antique." In the case of KHLH, Inc., this association could not be more false. First, as a builder, all KHLH's homes are brand-spanking new, with all the benefits newness entails -- parts and systems in prime, mint, working order; no layers of dirt, must, or germs; and no ghosts of previous owners.

The association is also false stylistically. Owner Kent Hanson has a fondness for contemporary- and prairie-style homes, and he shows a keen ability to offer innovative solutions to modern design issues.

Take the stunning Angle House, for instance. So named because of its bold lines and angles, the "mansion" incorporates five distinct levels over a total of 10,000 square feet. Upon entrance into the 20-foot high foyer, one meets a bridge with glass rails spanning behind a contemporary-styled chandelier. Proceeding in to the living room, one looks up at full 18-foot walls of adjoining windows.

This open-concept prairie home was specifically designed so as to best take advantage of the dramatic landscape in which it sits and to bring the experience of the outdoors inside. Built from actual lumber cut to clear the site, it features a huge wrap-around observation deck/porch area which leads into the scenic "Wisconsin Room."
